Gran Habano Connecticut #1

Gran Habano Connecticut #1 Review

By: GF John

Introduction:

After smoking my first Connecticut wrapped cigar a few weeks back, I have really taken a liking to the milder nature and light flavors of this cigar. Today I smoked a Gran Habano Connecticut #1, and it was a great smoke. I hope you all enjoy the review.

Construction:

The cigar was capped by a perfectly executed triple cap Connecticut shade leaf. The quality and skill put into this cigar showed through from stem to stern. The leaf was very delicate with light veining, which of course is a Connecticut leaf characteristic. I could find no imperfections. Construction was firm throughout, and the Connecticut #1 sported a very handsome raised gold lettering over a white background, with the Gran Habano crest. A+ overall.

Draw/Burn:

One thing I despise in a cigar is a tight draw. Gran Habano realizes most cigar smokers feel the same way, so they draw test every cigar before finishing to ensure the draw is perfect and stayed that way until the nub was burning my fingers. Well, it worked. The draw on this cigar was perfect. Nuff said there. The burn was also excellent with an even laser cut edge and a nice sturdy white ash. The Connecticut #1 returned a nice creamy thick smoke that was very nice. Again, A+ on all counts.

Taste:

Right away the #1 started out with a distinct sweetness with some vanilla and light almond flavor, all delivered with a smooth character. All of these flavors continued until the last quarter of the smoke when the flavors got a bit more intense with a medium tobacco and cedar finish. All in all I found the flavors of this cigar to be just enough to please but not overpower the smoker. I had a good dark German beer with this smoke and the caramel of the beer went well with the sweetness of this cigar. A+ again.

Summary:

I have to say that this was one excellent cigar. I do not always feel like getting knocked on my ass by a double maduro or a corojo powerhouse, and in these instances I think a cigar like this will fill that mood very well. I would suggest this cigar for the experienced smoker and neophyte alike. It truly has something for everyone. I have no cons to write about here as this was a great experience that really made my afternoon smoke a great experience. Try one, you won’t be sorry.

Score: 8.2 out of 10.
